New-Build Guardian Office Building Clerkenwell
This new-build office development is located in the Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area. The building comprises approximately 4,500m² of high quality contemporary office accommodation; which was pre-let to Guardian Newspapers. Arranged over seven storeys, two below ground level, the building was cleverly designed and constructed to maximise the potential of this tight Brownfield site which fronts onto Herbal Hill.
Surrounded by listed buildings, and in close proximity to an underground mail tunnel and infrastructure, the successful realisation of this project presented a number of interesting and challenging problems; including complex engineering, archaeology, rights of light and party wall matters. Graham Norman, under the auspices of Child Graddon Lewis, was the lead architect responsible for the design, planning and construction of the scheme – co-ordinating the work of a large multi-disciplinary team from inception through to completion.
